Snoring is a troublesome and embarrassing ailment that occurs during sleep, which affects both the elderly and the young. Simply put, the cause of snoring is the obstruction of air flow through the respiratory tract, which causes the throat walls to vibrate.

Snoring, which is caused by anatomical defects, can be surgically removed - in outpatient conditions or as part of "same day surgery". Depending on what is the cause, to eliminate snoring you should:

correct a deviated nasal septum,

remove overgrown tonsils,

remove polyps,

reduce the palate.
In snorers, whose soft palate and uvula are particularly elongated, palate plastic surgery can be performed. It consists in shortening the palatal arches and uvula.
As a result, there is more space in the throat and the palate is stiffer. A palate lift is usually performed under local anesthesia. However, sometimes palate surgery under local anesthesia may not be possible in patients with severe gag reflexes. This procedure can also be performed under general anesthesia. Then the scope of resection of the palate and uvula may be greater.
